Christmas Table Decoration by Petr Kratochvil

At one of our seasonal events, guests were greeted with elaborate décor… and free drink tickets. Not surprisingly, some guests really committed to getting extra tickets, and even tried such antics as coming in again with a different jacket on, or with a different group of guests. Fortunately for the client’s bar tab, our staff wasn’t born yesterday.

However, after already making three such attempts, it seemed one guest was intent on making a lasting impression. While we had our backs turned, he managed to stash a floral arrangement under his jacket and sneak off into the banquet hall. We immediately noted the missing flowers and sent our most intimidating staff member – a whole 5’1” and 100 lbs soaking wet – after him to recover the flowers.

It was almost comically easy to spot which table had an excessive amount of centerpieces. The culprit and his friends looked on sheepishly as the staff member picked up the flowers and announced, “I will be returning this to the front now”. Somewhat caught-off guard, one of the tables’ members exclaimed, “You actually came back for it! Are we really blacked listed already?”. Our staff member simply smiled and replied, “Have a nice evening”, and then sashayed off with the floral arrangement, leaving the table suitably chastised.

Every event will have guests that want to take a memento home with them – regardless of whether they really need it – so don’t be surprised if floral arrangements, centerpieces, and other décor items grow feet and relocate. As a general note, budget for a couple of these self proclaimed “souvenirs” if using rental items; or as an extra touch, simply purchase the centerpieces and allow guests to take them home.
